Airsoft rifles are look a likes of the actual arms used in war and battle fields. Though these rifles are used for fun and sporting purposes, the look and feel is no less as compared to the actual ones. Airsoft guns use both non-metallic and metallic small bullets and the FPS is generally between 30 meters per second to 180 meters per second.
Accuracy and power are the main characteristics of the Airsoft rifles. Players can choose the right rifle based on the requirement and experience. For example, spring-loaded rifles are suitable for target practices.
The failure rate of Airsoft guns with spring mechanism is minimal and durable. These rifles are best used at entry levels of a game. Due to the spring mechanism, the gun needs to be cocked by the user prior to a shot. Experienced players go in for the high powered Airsoft rifles which fires three rounds and is semi automatic.
The different types of Airsoft rifles available are electric guns, spring powered and gas powered.
Electric guns
Electric guns are further subdivided into categories namely, Low powered electric guns, automatic electric guns, medium powered electric guns, hybrid guns, electric pistols that are automatic, blow backs and mini electrics.
Electric guns run on rechargeable batteries which are used to run the gearbox of the gun. The battery charger comes along with the kit. The battery initially is to be charged only for 4 hours. Post the initial charge, the battery is not to be charged more than 2 to 3 hours, as overcharging of the battery can damage it.
These Airsoft rifles have provisions to accessorize the gun to make it look more realistic, while some rifles have space for up gradation, if required.
Spring powered
These Airsoft rifles are designed as single shot. Spring powered rifles require cocking of the spring for every shot. They might not be as effective as the other two types but there are some exceptions which have an FPS over 400. But these rifles are slightly expensive and tend to wear out soon due to constant cocking of the spring.
These Airsoft rifles are cheaper as compared to the other two and hence are used during practice sessions for amateur players.
Gas powered
Pressurized gas is used in gas powered Airsoft rifles to activate the bullets. The gas powered mechanism is used in instances where usage of electric power is not feasible, or in places where a blowback property is to be used.
An Airsoft rifle is generally harmless as injury made by the bullet only stings for a while and leaves no mark on any part of the body. But better safe than sorry, make use of suitable defensive gear to avoid a serious injury like a hit in the eye which can cause blindness.
