AEG Airsoft Guns

The term AEG in the airsoft community stands for Automatic Electric Gun.  The name is derived from the semi or fully automatic nature of the guns as well as the obvious fact that it is an electrical action.  This action is powered by a rechargeable battery.  These guns can vary greatly in price and quality but even the cheapest ones can result in a lot of fun.

When buying an AEG airsoft gun it is important to remember that there will be times when batteries must be replaced and that means you need to make sure that the battery is available for purchase.  Nothing is worse than having a perfect airsoft gun sitting around the house with no juice to run it.  When it comes to materials I am partial to metal myself.  I have had good luck with plastic but I think if I ever were to move into professional or serious competition matches I would most likely go with all metal.  One main reason for this is that plastic tends to be fragile.

I have fallen and had my weapon hit the ground before and I’m sure that with my weight on a plastic rifle it wouldn’t last long at all.  As with real weapons there is some maintenance required.  This mostly consists of periodic lubrication of key points.  Keep this in mind because anything that requires such maintenance will naturally last longer if it receives it.

When firing higher end guns it is recommended that you use only heavier weight, seamless, and new pellets.  It is recommended that you never reuse them due to the damage caused by firing and the impact on the object.  This makes it unsuitable to be used as it can damage the barrel and the gear box.  There are many manufacturers of AEG airsoft guns but some of the more well-known ones are Tokyo Marui, Cybergun, and UTG.

These companies all produce good quality products in the AEG category.  Another thing to remember about AEG airsoft guns is that the E actually does stand for electric.  That being said it is a good idea not to expose it to any unnecessary moister.  I’m sure most AEG airsoft guns can handle a little water but I would be doing any underwater recon and expecting it to save my skin when it came time to fight.

As I mentioned in another article this is the preferred action type for me since it is semi or full auto modes are useful and you don’t have to buy new gas or worry about maintaining a gas system.  Please read some of my articles and reviews on specific AEG airsoft guns throughout the sight.
