Well MB-R6 Review

The Well MB-R6 is an airsoft clone of the military M-4 and civilian equivalents. On first inspection I found the R6 to be a relatively faithful reproduction of the rifle I personally carried for 7 months overseas. There are slight cosmetic and sizing differences but it should be close enough for all but the most discerning airsoft connoisseur. In the following review I will highlight some of the pros and cons involved in owning this rifle.

Pros Cons

Faithful Reproduction Misfires

Price Magazine Quality

Sights Build Materials

Accuracy

Build Quality

AEG Mechanism

I’ll start with the pros. As before mentioned, I served five years in the military and I love the nostalgic factor of this gun. It isn’t exact but it is close enough to get my heart beating again when I hold it. The fact that it is under a hundred dollars makes it a fairly sensible purchase for the beginning enthusiast. I noticed that the front sight post was very slightly rounded but not so much as to mess up the inherent accuracy. I was able to hit a small glass vase at 30 and 40 paces every time the weapon fired (more on this later). This test was even done in a pretty strong wind and I found that as long as I shot with the wind I could score consistent hits on target. I loved the AEG Mechanism on this gun. It allows semi-automatic or fully automatic fire. Even in full auto the gun was plenty accurate on the target for me to feel confident in low to medium range fights.

Now, unfortunately, we must move on to the cons of this gun. My biggest qualm with the Well MB-R6 is the large rate of misfires. You’ll recall that I mentioned it was accurate every time it fired. Well there were a good number of times where it took 3-4 trigger pulls to produce a shot. This would dissuade me from carrying the R6 into a match. Even though it is only airsoft, you still need a weapon to fire when you pull the trigger to win matches. I hated the magazine. It seems like to me there has to be a better way to cycle the hop up mechanism then to wind a wheel at the bottom. I believe this is the source of the misfires and if I’m correct then a simple magazine change would remedy the problem. I understand that this is a lower level model but I still wish there were more metal parts. The only part that is metal is the AEG action. It just feels cheap to me with the majority of it being plastic.

In summary, the R-6 is a surprisingly well made and accurate gun for the price point it serves. I believe that with a new magazine and fair winds I would be comfortable plinking with, or competing with this rifle.
