The M14 airsoft rifle is marketed mainly as an airsoft sniper rifle. This is a good choice given the fact that many M14s were made to serve this purpose in real life. There are many manufacturers of M14s in the airsoft world and them to be of ok quality.
The best ones come with real wood stocks and metal throughout and can run in the three to four hundred ranges. There is no shortage of accessories for these rifles from rail adapters to scopes and bipods. This is all important because anyone that wants to make a strong attempt at sniping will be infinitely more prepared with these products.
Some of the scopes I’ve seen made are true rifle quality and will be able to see much further than you’ll ever shoot an airsoft pellet. This is nice to see because I remember a time when all scopes on “toy” guns were terrible plastic with no hint of accuracy. Today, however, we live in an entirely different age. As a matter of fact many of today’s airsoft accessories could be pulled off of your M14 airsoft gun and put onto your real M14 and I dare say that they would work pretty well in a real steel environment.
I noticed a lot of plastic copies and I can attest to the fact that this just looks cheap when the real thing is supposed to be wood. It’s hard to make a piece of plastic look like wood because it is too shiny and it’s hard to copy wood grain when trying to faithfully reproduce it. This might be a bit nitpicky but I prefer wood where there is supposed to be wood.
I happen to know that I’m not alone in that thought because many people choose to pay a premium and pick up a wood gun instead of the cheaper plastic ones. One thing is for sure though, and that is if you take an M14 to a match, or just out to play, you will get plenty of attention. This is because even in the real steel world M14s are sought after and revered as great guns. This is also evidenced by the fact that the M14 has been in production since 1957 and has been used by many nations during times of war when the gun you carried didn’t just make you look cool, it kept you and your friends alive.
